A Life-Course Approach to Social Policy Analysis: A Proposed Framework. Discussion Paper
No explicit theory or framework consistently describes the goals of social policy or how social policies actually work. By a framework, we mean a consistent way of describing individuals in their relationship to society and its institutions, including how policies affect those relationships, and individual and social outcomes. The life-course approach provides a proper foundation to build upon. It focuses on the trajectories of individuals through life and on how key life events and transitions affect these trajectories.
