Money Smarts: My Financial Journey is an engaging board game designed for Indigenous youth aged 12 and older. The game introduces players to essential financial literacy concepts through realistic scenarios, encouraging them to develop practical skills for managing their own financial futures. Instead of focusing solely on individual wealth, the game emphasizes:
- Collective success: Encouraging teamwork and shared goals.
- Mutual assistance: Promoting value exchange, reciprocity, and community well-being.
- Cultural relevance: Featuring artwork by Indigenous artists, making the game relatable and reflective of Indigenous identity.
The game was created through the collaborative efforts of NACCA (National Aboriginal Capital Corporations Association), Victoria LaBillois, CPA Canada & CPA BC, Affordance Studio, Indigenous Artist Brandon Mitchell and financial literacy experts. Together, these partners have worked to ensure the game is both culturally relevant and accessible to Indigenous communities, fostering a sense of identity and belonging.
There is also an online version of the game in both English and French that you can register for:
English - Money Smarts
French - Porte-monnaie
