, Caught in the Middle: Some in Canada's Middle Class Are Doing Well; Others Have Good Reason to Worry
This paper discusses how complex is the seemingly simple task of identifying the middle class and
determining whether its condition is improving or deteriorating. This is because many variables
determine middle-class status, ranging from income and wealth to consumption, with often
contradictory results. This is not how the public debate is framed. Nor are all segments of the middle class trending in the same direction, which is hardly surprising given the wide range of people it covers.
